DALE GRANT

Born in the Bahamas, Dale Grant has lived in Paris, New York, Amsterdam and Berlin. He is currently based between Berlin and Rotterdam.

After completing a master’s degree International Relations, Dale turned to photography, pursuing a longstanding interest in people, identity and the ways we present ourselves. He has photographed fashion and portraits for magazines and fashion houses, including Chloé and Tommy Hilfiger. His practice spans two distinct but interconnected fields: portrait photography and fine art.

For Dale, portrait photography is about finding the beauty in every face. He looks for something in a person they may never have seen in themselves. The same instinct runs through his fine art photographs of flowers: in a face or a fading flower, he looks beyond first impressions to find what makes each one beautiful in its own way.

Dale photographs people for editorial and commercial clients, working in studios, workplaces and on location. He puts people at ease in front of the camera and directs them with confidence. His portraits combine distinctive lighting, thoughtful composition and a strong sense of character. His book Face: The Berlin Art Scene (Kerber Verlag, 2025) brings together 212 portraits of artists working in Berlin.

In his fine art practice, flowers become an allegory for life: its fragility, its transformations and the beauty of change. His series Fading Beauty, published as a book by Kerber Verlag in 2019, follows flowers through their final stage. As Dale describes it:

“As flowers begin to wither, their petals open fully, their vivid colors soften, and the petals become translucent, letting light shine through. Flowers all begin life looking rather similar, but it is as they wither that we witness their true individual beauty.”

His fine art photographs have been exhibited at Photo London and Photo Basel, as well as in galleries in Berlin, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and are held in private collections internationally.

Both books, Face: The Berlin Art Scene and Fading Beauty, are available here.
